i am requesting some expert advice:
what's the best mixer for the ultimate in sound quality when you have technics turntables and puny pc speakers? i'm using a vestax now, and it's not the greatest. i want something with better sound for a reasonable price (under 600 dollars). i'm looking at upgrading my speakers too, but live in an apartment --so i'm still limited to the small, compact type (probably going to buy Klipsch).
your two cents will be appreciated...

Re: dj shite (equipment)
Mon, January 21, 2008 - 7:15 PMthe best sound quality i've found in your price range comes from Ecler. do an internet search for them, then check one out at your local pro dj shop. the 2-channel one is 500 i think, my roommate has it and it sounds great. it has rca and xlr outputs too. the preamps are the butter that makes the sound quality, so check any mixer with "boutique" preamps and they'll be much better than the vestax.
i still use the first ecler that came out 8 years ago, its a 2 channel tank that has earned its battle scars and still records top notch mixes. -

Tue, January 22, 2008 - 9:00 PMive wanted the ecler nuo 5 or 4 for ages....the sweetest mixer i ever used at a gig...

Re: dj shite (equipment)
Wed, January 23, 2008 - 10:51 AMthe mackies suck huge donkey pito. DO NOT BUY THE MACKIE!!! The sound quality is shakey at best and the firewire option is just not user friendly. I have an Onyx 1620 console with the Firewire for my studio soundcard, and its the bomb. The dj mixers, tried to be like the Onyx, but failed miserably because Mackie doesn't know how to make dj gear, only the speakers.
I was at my local guitar center, they had more Brand New - Used units for sale, than they had new units. Basically every one they sold, came right back to them within months cause the owners couldn't stand them.
The crossfader is total shit too, the ecler's and pioneers are the only true dj mixer's i've used that include all features. The Rane's don't even have XLR outs unless you spend $1000 for the Empath. -

Re: dj shite (equipment)
Wed, January 23, 2008 - 5:01 PMhmmm...i heard that the old mackie d.2 had issues, and that the newer version the d.2 pro and d.4 pro that sound and firewire issues were addressed, as they are now built in rather than optional...and the preamps are the onyx ones, so sound is supposedly good?
the new ones JUST came out like 2 weeks ago..im waiting to hear or try when i have some time.
on another note, the Korg mixers..the zero 4 and zero 8 sound interesting too...they (korg) have a whole line of DJ mixers that came out last year, not just those two....
but yea..Ecler is a sure thing...i might end up getting one of those.
hey Virge, wanna take a field trip to guitar center or Leos pro audio sometime soon?
